Water Watch - Electronic Urinal Flush Control Systems

HOW YOU CAN SAVE £400 A YEAR

Water Saving Assumptions:

Water Watch - Urinal Flush Control - Predicted Water ConsumptionMANUAL SYSTEM
Three urinals are fed by a 9 litre cistern and the water flow rate has been adjusted so that the system flushes every 20 minutes.

WATER WATCH CONTROL SYSTEM
the cistern is controlled by an electrical solenoid valve which is automatically opened for a pre-set period every 20 minutes.  A PIR presence detector ensures that the system does not flush if the washroom is unoccupied.

Water consumption:

The toilets are assumed to be available for 9 hrs/day, 6 days/week and 52 weeks /annum.  They will not be continuously occupied and a utilisation factor of 60% is used to allow for unoccupied periods longer than 20 minutes.

Manual system - 20 minute flush, 24 hrs/day, 365 days/year

Annual flushes

= 26,280

Consumption @ 9 litres/flush

= 236.5 m3

Water Watch - 20 minute flush during occupancy

Available  occupancy period

= 9hrs/day, 6days/wk, 52wks/ann
= 2,808/ann

Annual flushes (continuous occupancy) @ 60 % occupancy factor

= 8,424
= 5,054

Consumption

= 45.5 m3

Water Saving

= 191m3

COST SAVING @ £2.417 p/m3 *

= £462 p.a.

*  based on United Utilities tariff for commercial buildings - water charge 136.9 p/m3, sewage charge 104.8 p/m3.
